Some Features of the Deposition of Single Drops on a Model with a Hemispherical End Face at Different Temperatures

Abstract

In this paper, an attempt is made to experimentally study some effects observed during gravitational deposition of one or two drops on a model with a hemispherical end face at different temperatures. The specific features of the interaction of drops with the surface of the model were analyzed using frame-by-frame analysis of video recordings. Experiments have shown that for room temperature of the drop ( \({{T}_{d}} = 25{-} 27^\circ {\text{C}}\) ) and surface of the model ( \({{T}_{W}} = 25{-} 27^\circ {\text{C}}\) ), spreading and accumulation of the second drop do not occur on the surface of the model but on the surface of the first drop and are accompanied by repeat spreading of the first drop and its repeated accumulation. In the case of lower temperatures of the drop ( \({{T}_{d}} = 7{-} 9^\circ {\text{C}}\) ) and the surface ( \({{T}_{W}} = - 3 \ldots + {\kern 1pt} 0.5^\circ {\text{C}}\) ), there was no accumulation of the first drop, and spreading the second drop differed from spreading of the first. The results are intended to improve understanding of the mechanism underlying drop–surface interaction during impact freezing and to enhance anti-icing technologies.
