Dissipative Heating in a System of Two Frictionally Interacting Cylinders

Abstract

The article considers the problem of nonstationary heat transfer in a system of two coaxial cylinders that move uniformly relative to each other in the direction of their common axis of symmetry. It is assumed that on the surface of their interaction, the work of frictional forces is converted into thermal energy. In this case, the ratio of heat fluxes discharged into each of the cylinders is not known a priori. Using separation of variables, an approximate solution to such a problem for the temperature distribution in the cross section of the cylinders is obtained and an the influence of the main parameters of the system on it is analyzed. The obtained solution makes it possible to calculate the heating temperature in the contact zone of interacting bodies.
