Abstract <p>This paper presents the effects of gas discharge treatment on the hygroscopicity, surface free energy, and surface roughness of polyamide and polyester fibers. Gas discharge treatment increased hygroscopicity and surface free energy and decreased the surface roughness of the samples. The results can be used to produce fiber-reinforced composite materials with enhanced adhesive strength.</p>
