Abstract <p>The rate constants of the reactions of hydroxybenzoic acids with the carboxymethyl radical have been determined in this study using steady-state radiolysis. The reaction rate constants depend on the structure of the acids and vary in the range of (6.5−15.4) × 10<sup>5</sup> L mol<sup>–1</sup> s<sup>–1</sup>. Quantum chemical calculations of the antiradical activity of the test phenolic acids have been performed using the hydrogen atom transfer model. The calculated results agree well with the experimental data.</p>
