Isolation of an Anthocyanin from Flowers of Pterocarpus santalinus L.f.
摘要
Abstract
In many plants, anthocyanins play a vital task in determining the various brilliant colours of flowers. An analysis of phytochemicals was conducted on the flowers of Pterocarpus santalinus L.f., revealing the existence of carbohydrates, phytosteroids, proteins, alkaloids, flavonoids, and phenolics. An anthocyanin was isolated by column chromatography from the methanol extract of the flowers of Pterocarpus santalinus L.f. Its structure was confirmed by spectroscopic analysis. These flowers are seasonal and available only for a short period. So far no work was reported on the flowers of this plant, which instigated us to take up a systematic study on the flowers of this plant.
