Synthesis and Spectral–Luminescent Properties of N,N'-Bis(2-hydroxy-4-methylbenzylidene)-N-(2-aminoethyl)ethane-1,2-diamine in Various Solvents

Abstract
The spectral and luminescent properties of N,N′-bis(2-hydroxy-4-methylbenzylidene)-N-(2-aminoethyl)ethane-1,2-diamine, a new aromatic azomethine, have been studied. At 293 K, the substance fluoresces in solutions and in the polycrystalline state. The parameters of azomethine luminescence in solutions are determined by the solvent properties and excitation light energy. The luminescent activity of azomethine is determined by different contributions of its enol–imine and ketoenamine tautomeric forms depending on the nature of the solvent.
