Crystallization Behavior of (Mg,Ni)2Al4Si5O18 Glasses Obtained by Thermal Plasma Method

Abstract
The influence of chemical composition and thermal treatment parameters on the crystallization processes of Ni-cordierite glasses obtained by thermal plasma has been investigated. It was determined that cordierite crystallization occurs at 1100°C. In NiO-containing glass-ceramics, a significant amount of a by-product phase of spinel (Mg,Ni)Al2O4 is present. During thermal plasma treatment, nickel oxide is reduced to metallic nickel, with its quantity in glass-ceramics being approximately about 2–3%.
