Active Tectonics and Seismicity of the Southeastern Spur of Central Alborz Mountains (Northern Iran): Assessing the Seismic Risk Potential

The study region is located in the southeast of the Central Alborz with the longitude of 50°30′ to 52°00′ E and latitude of 35°30′ to 36°00′ N. Initially, the tectonic map of the area along with the faults was created using ArcGis software [54]. After examining these faults in terms of mechanism and history of earthquakes, the seismicity risk (maximum acceleration) was investigated, and the fault that is considered to have the highest acceleration and consequently was introduced. In the next step, the possible seismicity of the area was investigated using the Kijko’s method. Having identified the possible seismic sources with the appropriate mitigation method and determining the earthquakes of each period, the data was implemented using the Kijko’s method. After getting the output of the program, the data was evaluated using the Crisis2007 software [58]. The seismic map of the study area was created for specific four time periods. With using deterministic seismic hazard analysis method, it was found the maximum acceleration which includes the North Tehran Fault.
