Mosquitoes (Diptera, Culicidae) of the Republic of Belarus

Records of 43 mosquito species (Diptera: Culicidae) in the Republic of Belarus are revised and mapped. The collection records (coordinates and localities) are provided for Aedes cinereus, A. rossicus, A. annulipes, A. behningi, A. cantans, A. caspius, A. cataphylla, A. communis, A. cyprius, A. detritus, A. diantaeus, A. dorsalis, A. euedes, A. excrucians, A. flavescens, A. hexodontus, A. intrudens, A. leucomelas, A. mercurator, A. pionips, A. pullatus, A. punctor, A. riparius, A. sticticus, A. geniculatus, A. vexans, Anopheles atroparvus, A. claviger, A. maculipennis, A. messeae, A. daciae, A. plumbeus, A. hyrcanus, Culex modestus, C. pipiens, C. torrentium, C. territans, Culiseta fumipennis, C. morsitans, C. ochroptera, C. alaskaensis, C. annulata, and Coquillettidia richiardii. The study is based on the collections of the Scientific and Practical Center for Bioresources of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg), as well as on published data. Based on the collection data, the mosquito distribution in Belarus is updated. Anopheles hyrcanus is recorded for the first time in Gomel Province of Belarus. Fourteen species are recorded for four districts of three Belarusian provinces for the first time.
