<b>Abstract</b>— <p>For the first time the results of determination of 44 trace elements in water and suspended solids of streams and lakes of five bays of the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago (Blagopoluchiya, Tsivolki, Stepovoy, Abrosimov, and Medvezhy) are presented. Low concentrations of dissolved trace elements were revealed in comparison with their concentrations in rivers of the Russian Arctic, owing to significantly suppressed chemical weathering on the archipelago due to the harsh climate and peculiarities of bedrocks of the catchment, as well as increased activity of sorption processes and sharply reduced concentrations of dissolved organic matter. A different situation is observed for the content of the same trace elements in suspended particulate matter of streams and lakes. The similarity of chemical element composition of suspended sediments in streams and lakes and the main sedimentary rocks of catchment areas—ankeritolitic shales—indicates them as the most important source of dissolved and suspended particulate matter input into streams and lakes. Comparison of dissolved trace elements in streams and lakes of the Novaya Zemlya and Kolyma River showed that the streams and lakes are significantly depleted in trace elements comparing to the Kolyma River.</p>
