Abstract <p>The influence of observation periodicity and density of GNSS stations on determined horizontal and vertical displacements of the surface is considered. The importance of accounting for the spatiotemporal scale effect to improve the accuracy of deformation process forecasting is substantiated. By an example of some geodynamic polygons located in different parts of the Earth, it is shown that recorded deformations depend on the observational scale and on the stress-strain conditions of crustal segments. Anomalous deformations of the Earth’s surface at the Nizhne-Kansk geodynamic site are investigated in detail with allowance for spatial-scale characteristics. Methodological approaches are proposed for the interpretation and monitoring of deformation processes of the Earth’s surface based on GNSS observations.</p>

Abstract
