The Quasi-Biennial Oscillation of the Wind in the Equatorial Stratosphere
摘要
Abstract
This article is devoted to the 70th anniversary of the monitoring of the quasi-biennial wind oscillation (QBO) at the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia. A series of average monthly quasi-biannial oscillation indexes has been accumulated from 1954 to 2023. The amplitude spectrum of this series has been calculated. The similarity between the spectra of the QBO and the coordinates of the Earthʼs poles is shown. The celestial-mechanical nature of the Chandler wobble and QBO periods is revealed. The waves of thermal and gravitational tides absorbed in the atmosphere are described. A pronounced, simultaneous attenuation of the amplitudes of QBO, Chandler oscillations, and solar activity observed in recent years is discussed.
