Measurements of Total Ozone Content in the 4.7 μm Region with a Medium-Resolution FTIR Spectrometer and Comparison with Satellite Data

Abstract—This paper presents the results of total ozone content (TOC) measurements by the MR-32 ground-based equipment at Obninsk station (55.11° N; 36.60° E). Based on the analysis of solar radiation absorption spectra measured in 2015–2022 by a medium-resolution Fourier spectrometer (0.12 cm−1), the working spectral intervals in the 4.7 μm region are determined. The SFIT4 program is used to calculate the TOC. A comparison of TOC measurement results by the MR-32 instrument with the Ozone Mapping and Profiling Suite (OMPS), Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) and SBUV (MOD) satellite data has shown good agreement. Correlation coefficients are 0.93–0.97, and according to the spectral and cross-correlation wavelet analysis of ground-based and satellite data, variations in the main oscillations in the 4–60 month period range occur almost synchronously. Systematic disagreements between the daily mean ground-based and satellite TOC measurements are (–0.8 ± 3.6)%, (–0.2 ± 3.7)% and (–2 ± 5)% for OMPS, OMI, and SBUV (MOD), respectively.
