<p>This article introduces and analyzes a topic that may be little known outside Latin America: the early period of feminist liberation theology in Latin America, during the 1970s and 1980s. The study is presented through a method used by the author in her doctoral thesis: the relational and hermeneutical reading between the author of a text and the reader of that same text, a relationship from which a helical movement of change and advancement of theological thought emerges. After a general overview of how some groups of women and feminist intellectuals reacted to the early elaborations of classical liberation theology, two authors, Elsa Tamez and María Pilar Aquino, are presented with an in-depth discussion of their most significant works. In the final section, the author offers some analyses from a reader’s perspective, highlighting particular points she considers especially relevant.</p>
