Déjà vu all over again? A model and indexes of proto-fascism for Western and comparable societies
摘要
The article proposes a model of proto-fascism and computes its composite indexes for Western and comparable societies such as OECD countries. It first outlines and elaborates a sociological model of proto-fascism that conceptualizes and defines it as a total social system. Then it constructs a substantive composite index of proto-fascism comprising certain indicators and proxies as its components and describes relevant data and their sources. It reports the substantive results of an empirical analysis by computing quantitative aggregate proto-fascism indexes for OECD countries and ranking them by these indexes. The overall empirical result is that the model of proto-fascism fits in varying degrees around dozen OECD countries but does not fit most others. It then discusses these results. Lastly, the article draws conclusions and theoretical implications.
