Picturing the divergent roles of institutional ties and different types of business ties in affecting administrative innovativeness
摘要
This study draws on social network theory and wisdom from business ties research to investigate the curvilinear effects of two types of business ties (i.e., horizontal ties and vertical ties) on administrative innovativeness, and the moderation effects of institutional ties. Multi-informants survey data from a sample of 246 incumbent in China were employed to perform hierarchical moderated regression analysis. The results reveal that horizontal ties have an inverted U-shaped influence on administrative innovativeness, and vertical ties have a U-shaped effect on administrative innovativeness. Meanwhile institutional ties strengthen the relations between two types of business ties and administrative innovativeness. This research makes a deliberate attempt by specifying the origins of managerial ties’ internal and external perceptional influences and distinguishes two types of business ties by elaborating their inherent differences in the infrastructural and perceptional aspects and enriches the discussion around the ‘evolving roles of managerial ties’ by introducing an objective-based logic.
