<p>Classifications and typologies are vital for organizing the vast and complex knowledge about the world. It is also about cities. Their features, characteristics, and trajectories of transformation. At the same time, however, typologies greatly simplify the picture of the world. ‘Postcolonial cities’ or ‘small towns’ are categories in which not only is there no room for nuance, but it is also not clear what belongs in them. What are the particularities that have determined their inclusion in a certain category? In such a situation, the categorization makes it more difficult to understand the phenomena because of the oversimplifications, generalizations and stereotypes that are associated with a particular category. Categories with the prefix ‘post’ are particularly unhelpful. For example, ‘post-socialist cities’.</p>
