摘要

This study examines the inclusivity of structural transformation and its impact on sustainable growth in developing countries, focusing specifically on Pakistan. Unlike many developing economies, Pakistan’s labor transition has been characterized by a direct shift from agriculture to the service sector, bypassing industrial deepening. Building on Kuznets’ (Kuznets (1995) Am Econ Rev 45:1–28) inverted-U hypothesis of inequality, the study applies an ARDL bounds testing approach using data from 1976 to 2018. Findings confirm the Kuznets pattern for sectoral employment but reveal a contrasting dynamic for sectoral output, suggesting jobless growth in the service sector. By introducing a novel real versus nominal sector framework, this research provides fresh empirical insights into how sectoral shifts shape income inequality during economic development.
