摘要

With increasing digital adoption in India, understanding how older adults perceive internet risks and adopt safe practices is essential. This study explores risk perception and safe behaviour among older adults in India using a phenomenological approach. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 30 older adults aged 60–77 years, and data were analysed using thematic analysis. The findings indicated four themes: (1) Antecedents of risk perception, (2) Emotional reactions to risk perception, (3) Challenges of using the internet and (4) Safe behaviours. Participants expressed anxiety and scepticism about online threats. Many relied on family support for digital safety and took proactive safety measures while navigating the digital space. The study highlights the need for targeted digital literacy programmes to enhance online safety and confidence among older adults.
