Incels: From the alleged theft of jouissance to a love frozen in the imaginary
摘要
I propose a psychoanalytical study of the incel movement, a community formed around hatred of women. First, I show they are inscribed in an identificatory movement which I call “melancholiform” where they recognize themselves as “sub-males”. I then turn to the incel reading of the formulas of sexuation, which produce what I call a love “frozen in the Imaginary”. I show that their hatred is a consequence of their impression of “jouissance deficit” out of step with neoliberal promises of total jouissance. In conclusion, I present a clinical vignette showing how psychoanalysis can prevent an adolescent from becoming an incel.
