Straight outta the symptom: hip-hop as a peripheral psychoanalysis

  • Ahmad Fuad Rahmat

摘要

This paper charts an agenda for the possibility and necessity of a critical decolonial dialogue between psychoanalysis and hip-hop. It does so by situating the emergence of each in a historical light by considering the similarities in their respective use of language as different moments in the emergence of global capitalism. Fredric Jameson’s use of world systems theory provides the big picture setting while Lacan’s notion of père-version serves as a theoretical precedent for how psychoanalysis could be reconsidered in light of hip-hop’s political use of the unspeakable.
