Babies of the 80s: The boys are still ashamed of crying

Boys are ashamed, boys cry. What makes these boys ashamed, what makes them cry? For that matter, what makes them boys? The answer is not so simple, especially in the context of the contemporary social bond, which deceives by promising to provide everything, dictates a jouissance that makes lack and desire reproachable, shameful. Crying, in this perspective, could be a rebellion on behalf of the boys: the mourning of something that they have never had, as they were never given the chance to even desire it. The babies of the 80s, some of the boys that are still ashamed of crying, have been raised with assurances of abundance and the requisition of consumption. This generation, however, realises today that it has been unknowingly deprived of the chance to give their own translations to the enigma of sex, jouissance, the world and the connection to the Other. This is the loss that this generation is now called to mourn. What is at stake now could be something as yet untested: to create a place more hospitable.
