<p>This roundtable brings together five scholars of premodern and early modern trans studies from a range of disciplinary backgrounds and theoretical commitments to discuss the relationship between transness and technique. The scholars discuss the techniques that characterize the past, present, and future of transness and trans studies, with emphasis on techniques that are DIY, handmade, or that otherwise evade technologization and institutionalization. The conversation ranges across topics from the etiquette and infrastructures of trans advice-giving to the concept of the ‘modern.’ The scholars also discuss their recent participation in the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles exhibition <i>Scientia Sexualis</i> (October 4, 2024–March 2, 2025) and the Pre- and Early Modern Trans Studies Symposium at Boston University (March 23–25, 2025).</p>
