Multichannel portfolio balance as a revenue management indicator: evidence from urban hotels in Madrid
摘要
Urban hotels operate in platform-mediated markets where revenue management increasingly depends on how direct and intermediary channels are combined. Using survey data from 50 three- to five-star hotels in Madrid (2022–2023), this study analyses channel composition and portfolio balance through non-parametric tests, the coefficient of variation, and Shannon entropy. Results show OTA-centred portfolios and segment-dependent associations with performance. Greater intermediary exposure and more balanced portfolios are associated primarily with higher occupancy in four- and five-star hotels, whereas RevPAR relationships are weaker and less consistent. Portfolio balance emerges as a practical indicator of channel dependence and diversification.
