Adapting Dubai’s free zone success to Hainan’s free trade frontier: a cross-case comparison
摘要
In this paper’s comparative analysis, the Hainan free trade zone (HFTZ) is assessed in terms of global exposure and investor appeal in comparison with the efficient branding and marketing strategies used by the Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA). Knowledge of strategic branding and marketing is important for both identity development and gaining a competitive advantage in a free zone situation, so this study examines the proven strategies used by JAFZA that are applicable to the specific economic and cultural context of HFTZ. By conducting a systematic analysis of seven sets of interviews with thirteen JAFZA professionals, this survey was able to identify twelve essential themes that contribute to high JAFZA performance. Some of these are as follows: marketing strategies and campaigns; infrastructure facilities; regulatory framework as well as incentives offered; community and networking; technical innovation; environmental sustainability; financial services incentives; and security stability and strategic alliances. Findings indicate that some themes demand huge financial investment while others necessitate significant infrastructure development. In conclusion, practical recommendations for HFTZ have also been drawn up considering its peculiar advantages and resolving existing problems. This work fills gaps in literature by providing insightful analysis regarding industry best practices for other developing free trade zones across the globe.
