<p>The Vaginal Microbiota and Gynaecological health (VaMiGyn)-study was designed to explore the vaginal microbiota, and its association with women’s health. The study cohort consists of women (n = 4,043) recruited from the Swedish national cervical screening programme, and from the gynaecological outpatient clinic at Uppsala University hospital. Participants were sampled for microbiota analysis, and filled out questionnaires focused on general and reproductive health. A sub-cohort of these women (n = 1749) also had data on results from the cervical screening and/or cervical biopsies. Comparisons of the study cohort demographics with national and regional statistics show similarities in both lifestyle, general and reproductive health, and differences in educational level, and non-communicable diseases such as allergy and diabetes. An increasing number of risk-factors for HPV related disease was also shown to have a cumulative effect on the risk for any HPV-related event. We will investigate the association between the microbiome, health, and lifestyle in the follow-up studies.</p>
