<p>Locust outbreaks significantly threaten the livelihoods of billions of people globally, and this number continues to increase. Latest projections show that crop losses due to insect infestations will increase by up to 50% with a 2 °C increase in global warming. We propose strategies for mitigating and managing future locust outbreaks by integrating communities’ perspectives, needs, and insights with new technologies for effective large-scale monitoring, early detection, reporting, verification, and control.</p>
