Tariffs on electric vehicles deepen woes of U.S. electrification stagnation
摘要
Despite the U.S. climate ambitions requiring a 24% annual growth in EV sales, its EV market has experienced slow growth. Affordable EV imports could help break this stagnation, but the U.S. imposed high tariffs, to protect domestic auto industry. We argue that localizing foreign production capacity in the U.S. could reignite the electrification momentum without sacrificing other priorities. This strategy is also crucial for many other countries facing similar dilemma.
