Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a major health issue worldwide. There are few reports on DFU in Sudan, and no studies on this issue have been conducted in eastern Sudan. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of DFU and its associated factors among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Gadarif, eastern Sudan. A cross-sectional study was conducted at the diabetic center in Gadarif, Eastern Sudan (tertiary hospital). A questionnaire was used to collect sociodemographic characteristics. Multivariate binary regression was performed. Of 648 adults with T2DM, 416 (64.2%) were females. The median (interquartile range, IQR) of the age, duration of T2DM, and body mass index was 55.0 (44.0‒64.7) years, 7.0 (2.0‒12.0) years, and 25.6(22.6‒28.9) kg/m2, respectively. Sixty-nine (10.6%) adults had a DFU. Multivariate logistic regression showed that duration of T2DM (AOR = 1.08, 95.0% CI = 1.04‒1.11, P < 0.001), male sex (AOR = 2.54, 95.0% CI = 1.35‒4.79, P = 0.004) were associated with DFU. Age, marital status, residency, employment status, education level, BMI, smoking status, alcohol status, and hyperlipidemia were not associated with DFU. ͞. DFU is a health problem in eastern Sudan, in which one out of ten (10.6%) patients with T2DM had DFU. Male sex and duration of T2DM were associated factors for DFU. Preventive measures, including education and screening, should be implemented.
