Experimental study on isothermal adsorption and desorption characteristics and influencing factors of transitional facies shale gas

Methane adsorption and desorption are important for shale gas storage and production, but the effects of shale, temperature, pressure, and water content are not fully understood. This study looks at methane adsorption and desorption in shale gas reservoirs under different temperature, pressure, and water conditions. It highlights how water molecules compete for adsorption sites, reducing adsorption capacity. A new ternary Langmuir model is introduced, which better describes shale adsorption behavior than the traditional model. The results show that adsorption increases with pressure but decreases with temperature, and water reduces adsorption further. There is also a linear relationship between Langmuir volume (VL) and pressure (PL) with temperature changes. This study shows the usefulness of the ternary Langmuir model for predicting shale gas adsorption and provides useful insights for resource development.
