<p>This study aimed to establish cutoff points for the body roundness index as a predictor of metabolic syndrome in a Brazilian adult population. This population-based cross-sectional study was conducted with data from a subsample of laboratory tests from the 2013 National Health Survey. The adult population aged 18–59 years was considered. To determine the cutoff point for the body roundness index according to the risk classification for metabolic syndrome, high waist circumference and the presence of three other risk components according to international criteria were used. An analysis of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was performed to analyze the specificity and sensitivity. The cutoff points for both sexes were similar, resulting in a cutoff point for women of 3.757 (AUC: 0.833), with a sensitivity of 90.7% and a specificity of 63.0%, whereas for men, the cutoff point was 3.965 (AUC: 0.906), with a sensitivity of 93.1% and specificity of 76.4%. The body roundness index has great discriminatory power for predicting metabolic syndrome in the Brazilian population and can be incorporated into clinical practice.</p>
