Cancel the cancer culture!
摘要
In the United Kingdom (UK), almost one in two people will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. With nearly 50% of these individuals being of working age due to increased life expectancy, raises to retirement ages and changing disease patterns, it is vital that cancer patients get the required support from their workplace. Supporting dentists who are working during or returning to work after cancer is crucial given the UK's NHS dental shortage. As demand for dental services rises and the workforce remains under pressure, facilitating their reintegration is key to maintaining quality patient care and reducing workforce gaps. Drawing from personal experiences and reviewing current statistics, this article highlights the barriers faced by individuals living and working with cancer and explores the pressing need to address the stigma and challenges associated with cancer in the dental industry.
