<p>The middle Huai River basin serves as a geographic transitional zone connecting the Central Plains and copper-rich southern Anhui. However, Late Shang metal circulation patterns and local metallurgical traditions in this area remain underexplored. This study presents alloy composition and lead isotope data for bronzes excavated from the Huayuanhu Site in Fengyang, Anhui Province. These artefacts show uniformly low lead concentrations, yet this signature does not reflect the alloying traits of Late Shang bronzes from the middle Huai River basin; instead, it probably corresponds to a single production batch. Combined lead isotope, oracle bone and lineage emblem inscription analyses indicate that Fengyang likely functioned as a regional hub for metal resource redistribution throughout the Huai River watershed, with stationed clan communities managing the transit and allocation of raw metallic materials. These insights advance our understanding of how inland waterways structured the transport and distribution of metal materials across Shang polities.</p>
