<p>This paper presents a comprehensive, task-centric synthesis that reframes the development of Oracle bone inscriptions (OBI) information processing as a coevolution between methodologies and their underlying data substrate. Critical challenges and potential research directions are discussed for building trustworthy, efficient OBI information processing systems that function as true partners for frontline researchers, enabling them to contribute to key debates on the social structure and periodization of the pre-Qin period.</p>
