Decoding heritage: towards a coherent taxonomy of traditional knowledge and cultural expressions: proposing classification framework-TKCE
摘要
Entering the field of Traditional Knowledge (TK) can be daunting for beginners due to the immense breadth and diversity of knowledge systems. Interestingly, even veteran TK experts sometimes feel overwhelmed in this sea of knowledge. The gigantic and varied nature of TK and Traditional Cultural Expression, impregnated with community, geography-specific knowledge, poses several challenges. The continual discovery of new practices, integration of modern scientific insights, and cross-cultural comparisons can create a sense of uncertainty and fragmentation, making it challenging to maintain a comprehensive perspective or connect different strands of TK effectively. Hence, there is a pressing need for standardized classification frameworks. In this paper, using triangulation of data and following mixed methodology, the authors propose the establishment of a “TK and Cultural Expressions Classification System” (TKCE-C). Authors further recommend its continued development and governance by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), for international harmonization in line with “International Patent Classification”.
