<p>In the 18th century, perspective sheet cameras were an important visual medium in Europe. The printed picture series with perspective sheets from the workshop of Martin Engelbrecht was particularly important and widespread. However, no date of manufacture is ever given, so that in the literature, the dating of individual series can vary by 30 years. Here we show how a more accurate dating can be achieved, using a simple mathematical function to transform the numbering of the printed sheets into a date. Using the available input parameters, the year of manufacture for two perspective sheet series in particular, depicting a Freemasons’ lodge, was determined to be 1740 and 1746. Since it has been shown that the design of the motifs from Engelbrecht was based on external image templates and current events, the dating function described here will also make it possible in the future to compare them with other templates and events.</p>
