<p>PAU Bt 5 is a high-yielding <i>Bt</i> cotton variety developed at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, through pedigree selection from the cross LH 2298 × PAU Bt 1. The variety was released in 2023 for irrigated cultivation in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. Based on 15 All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Cotton trials conducted during 2019–2022 across five locations in the North Zone, PAU Bt 5 recorded a mean seed cotton yield of 2572&#xa0;kg/ha, outperforming PAU Bt 1, PAU Bt 2, F 2228, and local checks by 20.1%, 21.8%, 0.25%, and 8.18%, respectively. It exhibited a ginning outturn of 35.8% and good fibre quality with an upper half mean length of 26.2&#xa0;mm, micronaire of 4.9, and fibre strength of 26.4&#xa0;g/tex. The variety is moderately resistant to cotton leaf curl disease and resistant to fungal foliar leaf spot and bacterial leaf blight. Its superior yield, desirable fibre quality and disease resistance make PAU Bt 5 a suitable <i>Bt</i> cotton variety for irrigated cultivation in North India.</p>
