Quantification of sodium benzoate in different brands of children processed foods available in Tangail region by high performance liquid chromatography
摘要
An experimental study for the level of sodium benzoate in different brands of children processed foods in Bangladesh was conducted using high performance liquid chromatography.
Materials and methodsThe concentrations of sodium benzoate in all the samples were calculated by standard method with a calibration of correlation coefficient 0.999 from the standard calibration curves. Ten different brands of children processed foods from different shops were analyzed.
ResultsThe concentration of sodium benzoate varied a little between the different benzoate. Brand -1, -2, -3 and -4 respectively had 16.09 mg/100 ml, 25.52 mg/100 ml, 13.33 mg/100 ml and 10.84 mg/100 ml of sodium benzoate.
ConclusionThe percentage recovery was found to be 99.68 ± 0.05, 99.71 ± 0.03 and 99.69 ± 0.01. Comparing with references of the Bangladesh Standard Testing Institute, except Brand-10, none of the selective brands extremely violated the reference value (15 mg/100 ml), although Brand-1 and Brand-2 had more sodium benzoate than the standard.
