Background <p>An experimental study for the level of sodium benzoate in different brands of children processed foods in Bangladesh was conducted using high performance liquid chromatography.</p> Materials and methods <p>The concentrations of sodium benzoate in all the samples were calculated by standard method with a calibration of correlation coefficient 0.999 from the standard calibration curves. Ten different brands of children processed foods from different shops were analyzed.</p> Results <p>The concentration of sodium benzoate varied a little between the different benzoate. Brand -1, -2, -3 and -4 respectively had 16.09&#xa0;mg/100&#xa0;ml, 25.52&#xa0;mg/100&#xa0;ml, 13.33&#xa0;mg/100&#xa0;ml and 10.84&#xa0;mg/100&#xa0;ml of sodium benzoate.</p> Conclusion <p>The percentage recovery was found to be 99.68 ± 0.05, 99.71 ± 0.03 and 99.69 ± 0.01. Comparing with references of the&#xa0;Bangladesh Standard Testing Institute, except Brand-10, none of the selective brands extremely violated the reference value (15&#xa0;mg/100&#xa0;ml), although Brand-1 and Brand-2 had more sodium benzoate than the standard.</p>

Background

An experimental study for the level of sodium benzoate in different brands of children processed foods in Bangladesh was conducted using high performance liquid chromatography.

Materials and methods
