This paper explores and discusses the current state and future prospects of large-volume (> 2.0 mL) subcutaneous drug delivery (LVSC), with a focus on its transformative potential for pharmaceutical manufacturing and drug delivery device development. Referring to the success of subcutaneous immunoglobulin (SCIg) therapy, the paper examines its role as a leading example for LVSC drug administration. The discussion extends to other potential drugs transitioning from intravenous (IV) to subcutaneous (SC) delivery. Currently published literature is discussed in this paper that shows key benefits of LVSC drug delivery, such as improved patient convenience, better treatment adherence, and higher cost-effectiveness. The paper further emphasizes how LVSC drug delivery can enhance patient outcomes by enabling self-administration, reducing hospital visits, and optimizing the overall treatment process.
