Abstract <p>This study aimed to develop a system for production prognoses for <i>Pinus taeda</i> L. plantation using Stand Density Management Diagram (SDMD) associated with diameter class models. The database used came from permanent plots measured in the Paraná and Santa Catarina states, southern Brazil. The methodology proposed by McCarter and Long <i>Western Journal of Applied Forestry</i> 1:6-11 (1986) and Dean and Baldwin (<CitationRef CitationID="CR11">1993</CitationRef>) was used in constructing the SDMD, which can generate stand attributes used as input in a diameter-class model, thus providing detailed prognosis of wood assortments in thinnings and final cut. With attributes from SDMD the parameters Weibull function are recovered by the method of moments and with the association of these two models types a production system was developed. The developed system can indicate the correct timing for thinnings and final cut (SDMD) and the most appropriate and profitable management regimes using the projection of the wood assortments (diameter-class model) and respective market values in a simply, quickly and economical way. The new methodology is an important tool, especially for forestry enterprises on small properties with the use of an easy-to-apply system by a forestry technician, which can reduce the forest rotation, implement the cuts at the right time, and in turn avoid mortality.</p>
