Evaluation of suitability of multinutrient extractants for estimating available potassium in some inceptisols of West Bengal, India
摘要
The present study was conducted to assess the suitability of five multinutrient extractants namely ammonium bicarbonate–diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (AB-DTPA), Mehlich 3, modified Morgan, Morgan, acid ammonium acetate ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (AAAc-EDTA) over standard method for determination of plant available potassium in soils of the Inceptisols for nutrition of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). Twenty soil samples from Inceptisol were analysed for extractable K content and were used to grow wheat with four levels of K (0, 30, 60 and 90 kg ha− 1). The extractable soil K by almost all the extractants showed significant positive correlations with soil organic C, clay content, available N, P, K and micronutrient content. The coefficient of correlation for relationship of K extracted by different multinutrient extractants with those extracted by NH4OAc were 0.903** (AB-DTPA), 0.952** (Mehlich 3), 0.798** (Modified Morgan), 0.830** (Morgan) and 0.838** (AAAc-EDTA), among which Mehlich 3 bears the highest correlation. Among the extractants, Mehlich 3 showed the highest correlation sum with other extractants. Moreover, maximum correlation of Mehlich 3 extractable K content with dry matter yield, K concentration and uptake by plant exists among the multinutrient extractants. Therefore, Mehlich 3 emerged as the most suitable extractant for available K in Inceptisols for nutrition of wheat. Critical concentration of Mehlich 3 extractable K in soils of Inceptisol was found to be 240 kg ha− 1 which remained higher as compared to other extractants viz. Modified Morgan, Morgan, AB-DTPA, AAAc-EDTA and ammonium acetate which have their critical limits as 225, 210, 190, 185 and 175 kg ha− 1 respectively. The critical limit of K in grain of wheat was found to be 0.9%.
