Identification and characterization of Poitrasia circinans and Neoscirrhia matteucciicola associated with ginger in Meghalaya, India
摘要
Ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) is an economically important spice crop grown extensively in Meghalaya, India. Ginger plantations in the region were observed to develop necrotic lesions on their leaves. Morphological and molecular characterisation of the pathogens isolated from symptomatic tissues identified the causal agents as Poitrasia circinans and Neoscirrhia matteucciicola, both responsible for the leaf spot disease in ginger. The study represents the first report of these phytopathogens affecting ginger plantations in Northeast India. The findings highlight threats to ginger farming in the region, indicating the need for effective disease monitoring and management strategies.
