Ethnoveterinary medicine, utilizing herbal and plant-based formulations, emerges as a promising solution with the potential to mitigate antibiotic resistance while enhancing milk quality and production. This review systematically documents Ayurvedic insights concerning plants employed in mastitis treatment, highlighting potential for the integration of indigenous wisdom into modern veterinary care in countries using ethnoveterinary medicine. Ethnoveterinary practices often capitalize on locally available plant resources with acknowledged medicinal properties, presenting a synthesis of ancient knowledge and practical applications for mastitis treatment. Validation of these traditional remedies becomes pivotal for their widespread acceptance. The paper examines diverse validation methodologies, encompassing microbiological tests, biotechnological techniques, and omics approaches. Microbiological tests assess the efficacy of these remedies against mastitis-causing pathogens, while biotechnology and omics offer nuanced insights into underlying molecular mechanisms, ensuring their validation. The review concludes by emphasizing the imperative of a forward-looking approach, given the rising challenge of antimicrobial resistances observed in animals against conventional medicines.
