<p>Rootstock selection is crucial in establishment of&#xa0;pistachio&#xa0;orchards because&#xa0;of its directly&#xa0;effects on absorb nutrients, resist diseases&#xa0; and adapt to various soil conditions. The right rootstock can significantly enhance yield, fruit quality, and the overall longevity of the pistachio orchard. Additionally, with increasing environmental challenges due to climate change, choosing appropriate rootstocks has become even more critical for sustainable pistachio production. Soil and water salinity, drought, soil diseases and nutritional disorders are the most important problems of pistachio production in the world. In different countries, depending on the problems and availability of seeds, different species of <i>Pistacia</i> are used as rootstock. In Iran, some cultivars of <i>P. vera</i> might be used as rootstock for their drought and salt tolerance and adaptation to local conditions. In the United States, UCB-1 rootstock might be favored due to its vigor and resistance to <i>Verticillium</i> wilt while in Turkey <i>P. khinjuk</i> might be used due to high tolerance to drought. In this review, an attempt has been made to introduce the rootstocks used for pistachio and discuss the characteristics of each one.</p>
