<p><i>Premna herbacea</i> Roxb. (Lamiaceae), locally known as <i>Kheraidaphni</i> among the Bodo community and <i>Matiajam</i> in broader Assam, is a perennial herb of considerable nutritional, medicinal, and cultural importance. This study employed the Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt v3.4.4) algorithm to predict the potential distribution of <i>P. herbacea</i> across Assam, India, using 65 spatially thinned occurrence records and nine environmentally screened variables selected after multicollinearity assessment (VIF ≤ 3). Model performance was evaluated using the Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve (AUC), True Skill Statistic (TSS), and Cohen’s Kappa, yielding values of 0.995, 0.87, and 0.84, respectively, indicating excellent predictive accuracy. The model identified approximately 1,331&#xa0;km² of suitable habitat in Assam, primarily within the sub-Himalayan grasslands of Manas and Orang National Parks. Of total suitable area, 383&#xa0;km² (28.79%) was classified as high suitability, 199&#xa0;km² (14.95%) as moderate, and 749&#xa0;km² (56.26%) as low, using thresholds derived from the Maximum Training Sensitivity plus Specificity criterion. Land use/land cover (LULC), precipitation seasonality (BIO15), and soil type were identified as the primary drivers of habitat suitability. The species’ restricted distribution, overlap with critically threatened grassland fauna, and ongoing harvesting pressure within protected areas highlight urgent conservation needs. Model projections also revealed potential suitable habitat outside existing core zones, suggesting opportunities for ecological restoration and community-based co-management. Given its Geographical Indication (GI) recognition and widespread use as a non-timber forest product (NTFP), conservation of <i>P. herbacea</i> necessitates a participatory landscape-level approach integrating biodiversity protection with regulated and sustainable harvesting practices.</p>
