Genomic characterization of Bacillus sp. WOD8 KX774193, nitrile-metabolizing bacterium (NMB) isolated from solid waste leachates (SWL) at Oke-Afa dumpsite, Isolo, Lagos State, Nigeria

The draft genome sequence of nitrile-metabolizing bacteria (NMB), namely, Bacillus sp. strain WOD8 was isolated from solid waste leachates through enrichment culture technique and was sequenced. Bacillus sp. WOD8 has been characterized as a strain that produces a new enzyme, nitrilase, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of nitrile into corresponding carboxylic acid and ammonia. Here, we present draft genome of Bacillus sp. WOD8.  The genomic size of Bacillus sp. WOD8 is 5.2 × 106 bp (5.2 Mb), with a GC content of 35.5 %, and contains 5543 genes, 5266 protein coding sequences (CDSs), 14, 15 and 3 rRNA genes, 85 tRNA genes, and 5 ncRNAs. This whole genome shotgun project has been deposited in GenBank under accession number JAYKZE000000000. The study was conducted to address nitrile pollution problem by providing a complete whole genome sequencing analysis of Bacillus sp. WOD8, enabling a better understanding of its bioremediation application, to access their potential for bioprospecting for better waste management in the nearest.
