Removal of a large sharp foreign body in the lower rectum through the anus using the pad method: a case report
摘要
Introduction
Rectal foreign bodies are common in clinical practice; however, large rectal foreign bodies are rare. Rectal foreign bodies can be removed either noninvasively through the rectum or by open surgery. Most large rectal foreign bodies are very difficult to remove through the rectum and require open surgery.
Case presentationWe report the noninvasive removal of a complex, sharp rectal foreign body in a 38-year-old man. We devised an innovative method to remove the foreign object through the rectum using pads created from a plastic infusion container to protect the rectal-anal mucosa.
OutcomesThe patient had a noneventful postsurgical recovery and was discharged after 3 days.
ConclusionThis method is simple and safe and is suitable for use in primary-care hospitals.
