Malignant catatonia in the context of Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) use and influenza a exposure in patients with treatment resistant schizophrenia, a report of two concurrent cases
摘要
This case report details two male psychiatric inpatients, Patient A and Patient B, who concurrently developed malignant catatonia. Both individuals, diagnosed with treatment-resistant schizophrenia, presented with unique symptoms but shared notable similarities in their clinical and environmental context. They had recently absconded from the ward, discontinued Sodium Valproate, been exposed to Influenza A, and were prescribed Oseltamivir. This remarkable concurrence highlights potential links between these factors and catatonia. The treatment with benzodiazepines proved effective for both. This paper examines potential etiological factors, focusing on Influenza A, Oseltamivir, and withdrawal from psychotropic medications, and suggests further research into these associations.
