An infant case of autoimmune enteropathy: pivotal role of ultrasound in the management
摘要
Autoimmune enteropathy (AIE) is a rare cause of chronic intractable diarrhea. We report the case of a 2-month-old infant who presented with intractable diarrhea and significant weight loss. Once clinical stability was achieved, endoscopy allowed AIE to be diagnosed. Ultrasound studies (US) correlated clinical and laboratory findings with the gastrointestinal inflammatory state during the course of the disease. This approach facilitates an appropriate and timely therapeutic strategy, with immunosuppressive treatment currently representing the primary therapeutic option.
