<p>The coastal region of Bangladesh, particularly Cox’s Bazar, is highly vulnerable to tropical cyclones, which cause significant damage to property and endanger lives. The Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research highlights that, over the past three decades, global climate change has led to a significant increase in cyclone intensity. Temporary evacuation, mostly through multi-purpose cyclone shelters, is a key structural climate adaptation strategy in Bangladesh. Although the shelters provide refuge during disasters, many are structurally inadequate, failing to meet the needs of evacuees. The overall objective of the present study is to evaluate the effectiveness of multi-purpose cyclone shelters in the Cox’s Bazar region during severe cyclonic storms such as Mocha. Additionally, through literature review and field surveys, the research aims to identify infrastructure gaps and provide recommendations to improve shelter resilience and disaster response capabilities.</p>
